BIOFEEDBACK

Biofeedback is a well-researched therapeutic procedure in which individuals learn to control their psychological responses. Throughout biofeedback training individuals learn to read their body and intervene with mind body discipline. As a result, patients learn to improve and control their autonomic nervous system responses. Research has shown that biofeedback is helpful in treating a variety of conditions including but not limited to: anxiety, depression, ADHD, chronic pain, headaches, insomnia, hypertension, and many medical conditions.

Biofeedback teaches individuals to focus and calm their bodies by regulating their breathing, heart rate, brain activity, temperature, and muscle tension. A therapist monitors these physiological processes while the patient is guided through exercises. The patient can immediately see how their breathing, heart rate, brain activity, temperature, and muscle tension react to stress and relaxation. Throughout the biofeedback training, individuals practice regulating these physiological processes and are better able to apply these exercises to live happier and healthier lives.
